A bit of History on Memorial Park

In 1945 the Saint Marys Service Men’s Club Trustees, Charles I. Houston, H.J. Brock, and R.E. Keim, became the first interested party in the development of Memorial Park. Its purpose being, a memorial to the service men and women of the community, the three Trustees wanted to purchase the land and fund the improvements and developments of the park solely through voluntary subscriptions from the public, industries, and the like, which were to be kept by the Borough of Saint Marys in a separate fund: the Memorial Park Fund. Houston, Brock, and Keim purchased 15.3 acres of land from Urban J. and Alvina Gregory, Christ C. and Rose Wolfel, and John Cancilla and his wife. In turn, this was then purchased from the Trustees by the Borough through the Memorial Park Fund.
